Riley's China Adventure

Chengde

Saturday, August 8, 2009

Today was our first full day in Chengde. First, we visited the imperial summer moutain resort, or the emperor's summer home. Then we went on a hike on a mini great wall of china, which after a 6 hour trek yesterday we were all so happy for. We walked for about two hours and then finally arrived at where we had lunch.

After lunch we went to a paper store and saw a demonstration from a master. It was amazing to see someone so deft with their hands and it was an awesome place to buy gifts!

Then we went back to the hotel and freshened up and got ready for dinner. When we got there we were treated to a multi-act dinner show complete with karaoke, dancing, and traditional Chinese costumes. It was an awesome evening and tons of fun!

Are the days longer in China??? It's seems as if you guys are doing a lot in the span of one day - hiking the mini wall, paper cutting lessons, karaoke and dancing. Enjoy. Karen Wells DSA South Africa

What sounded like a more "quiet" day (I doubt on a Discovery trip that any are really restful) you end with a wonderful interactive dinner. Karaoke, Chinese costumes and cooking--how wonderful a day. Funny how now you measure a two-hour walk as a breeze after a seven or six hour hike up the Great Wall. Everything's relevant after all.
